Southeastern Pennsylvania faces a nursing shortage, and Community College of Philadelphia’s nursing program prepares students to help fill it. For many of those students, cost is the obstacle standing between them and a degree.
In 2025–2026, 46 CCP nursing students received Nurses for Tomorrow scholarships to help them stay enrolled and finish their degrees. This is an increase from 38 students in the 2024-2025 academic year.
One of those 46 students is Sharandy Osei-Tutu. In an episode of the IBX Foundation’s Making Change Happen docuseries, Sharandy, an adult learner who returned to college to study nursing, describes how the scholarship eased the financial pressure of going back to school. Dr. Lisa Johnson, Department Head of Nursing at CCP, and Alycia Marshall, Ph.D., President of Community College of Philadelphia, explain how the scholarship gives students the footing to finish their degrees and move into careers the region depends on.
