Two pieces of advice we would share are: 1) We are all given two hands for a reason. One is to help yourself and the other is to help others. 2) The most important math you can do is to calculate the the future cost of your current decisions.
Alumni Couple Story: Q&A with Corey and Shane Lilliston
Share about your education and career paths:
Shane studied Business at CCP and graduated in May 2004. Shane transferred to Temple University upon her graduation from CCP, ultimately finishing her studies with a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University in May 2014 with a concentration in early childhood studies. Since graduating, she’s taught Pre K, 2nd grade, and 8th grade.
Corey graduated from CCP in May 2021, with a concentration in Liberal Arts. He went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Business from Bellevue University, graduating in May 2025. He remained working at his current employer, The Home Depot, where he’s been gainfully employed for 27 years.
How did you first meet at CCP?
We first met in a Human Resources Management class in the Fall of 2001. Our professor gave us a project to work on and told us to find a partner to work with. Not only did we find our project partners, but also life partners. We aced the project, then went on to successfully ace our relationship!
What’s a favorite CCP memory?
So many great memories of CCP. Of course, our favorite memory for both of us is the day we met in class. Back in October of 2001, we engaged in our first conversation and haven’t stopped conversing with each other for almost 25 years. We are best friends and we talk, strategize, and laugh about everything.
The richness of the CCP Main Campus is also a great memory. Although it’s a community college, it has the look, feel, and liveliness of a large university.
How did your time at CCP shape your relationship? How did your experiences at CCP bring you together and how has CCP been a part of your journey since then?
CCP provided a strong foundation for our academic journey, highlighting the importance of striving to be the best in anything you do.
CCP’s students and staff left such a great impression on both of us; it inspires us to be stewards in our community and foster an environment of collaboration.
CCP remains with us in our belief that if you put your mind to something, you can achieve it.
What advice would you share with current CCP students?
Two pieces of advice we would share are:
1) We are all given two hands for a reason. One is to help yourself and the other is to help others.
2) The most important math you can do is to calculate the the future cost of your current decisions.
